Here are a few examples of recent projects we've done

The jobs we have worked on vary hugely in terms of the scale of the works, the amount of materials involved and the timescale. However, we always bring the same workmanship and attention to detail.

Curving raised patio, curved walled raised bed and new turf area with flagged path

This back garden was totally transformed. It was a weed ridden uneven lawn in a back garden area with a damaged fence and a large tree stump to one corner. We created a design that would cover over the tree stump by building a stone walled raised bed. Our design also incorporated a multi-level effect by having the raised bed and the slightly raising the patio and facing it with stone. We stripped up the old lawn, flattened, added loam, weeded the area and re-lay new turf. We also replaced wind damaged fence panels, put down a stone path and put down strips of granite gravel edging.

Removal of old lawn and replacement with stone patios, wide gravel paths and large beds for planting space.

In this back garden there had been an unattractive lawn and some tired and rotting decking. The customer wanted some space for seating as well as more bed space for planting. The design ensured there was hard standing all the way around garden providing access to the planting beds. We demolished and removed the old decking and lawn sods and laid all the hard standing patio and paths and distributed soil to create new planting beds. We also fixed in two large wooden post for a hammock and built a small retaining wall to hold soil off the patio.

Curving stone paved and gravel areas to create a Japanese garden

In this garden, we were asked to add some additions that would create a Japanese feel to the garden. We designed a curving patio and gravel area. We also undertook some planting that reflected this theme.

Retaining a raised area of a garden with York stone

In this village garden, we replaced a rotten wooden log retained bank with two thick retaining walls built from 10 tonnes of York stone. This is a permanent solution to this raised area of the garden. Because dry stone does not need a deep foundation digging, building the wall did not damage the roots of the apple tree or the hedge to the rear.

A large scale series of retaining walls and flagged steps

This was a project we were involved with that was fairly large scale as it required over 100 tonnes of quarried stone and riven flags. It involved creating a series of stone walled terraces interlinked by riven York stone flag staircases. It also involved completely re-doing the lawn areas. Overall, it represented a total overhaul of the space.

A small wall retaining a bank with a yew hedge planted

We took out a conifer hedge that was outgrowing it’s position next to an extension. We were then asked to build a small retaining wall and replant the soil bank with yew. As the yew whips will take a while to establish themselves, it was necessary to install a traditional hazel fence that would screen the house until the yew hedge have put growth on. The advantage of this type of fence is that the wind blows through the gaps and will not get damaged in gales like a panel fence may do.

A terraced cottage garden with central gravel path

In this cottage garden, a central path gravel path is edged with reclaimed bricks and runs alongside a dry stone walled terrace area that is full of buddleias which provide an excellent screen. The large beds and close planting create an abundance of flowers and foliage throughout the year.

Back garden low flag topped walls for seating areas

In this back garden the client had some reclaimed stone leftover from some work on the house. The thick flagstones made an excellent topping for the low curving walls which were to double up as seating areas in the garden.

Building and planting a walled vegetable and herb garden

In this garden we created a multi-level effect by creating one top terrace on a higher level above a lower level. The terrace dry stone walls are lined with large lines of lavender in front of lines of chive plants. The main structure of the garden is large gravel areas with defined circular beds which reflect the curves of the walls. Dry stone walls lend themselves well to curves and this garden made the most of it. As well as being a very attractive space, it also has a productive herb garden, vegetable patches as well as many perennials like artichoke and rhubarb. In the shaded parts, under a hawthorn, are gooseberry and currant bushes. The dry stone walls also work well for climbers like hop and sweet pea.

Trimming, reducing, and maintaining hedges

Robinlandscapes can offer a trimming service throughout the year to cut back the annual growth of hedges. We use powerful petrol equipment to efficiently trim growth and ladders  to gain access to taller hedges. However, it may be you want a reduction of the height of a hedge which is possible with many species and can make the hedge easier to manage in the future.
