Here are some examples of some repairs and rebuilds of stone walls in the past weeks

Rebuild of a sandstone dry stone wall between gate posts

Below is a rebuild of a boundary dry stone wall between two properties in Deepcar just off the High Peak. I rebuilt the dry stone wall with the existing stone to hand. The old wall was fit to collapse and so it needed a rebuild by a craftsman, well packed and tightly interlocked. Interestingly, the wall was between two old gate posts. A nice job helped by some dry weather.

A nice tight wall built out of some quite random stone, very pleased with the finished article.

Rebuild of a collapsed section of mortared wall on the edge of the wentworth estate.

This was a nice scenic job, it’s always a morale booster to have a good view whilst working. A section of mortared walling had collapsed and so it needed putting back up by an experienced stone worker. The wall in question bordered the Wentworth estate and was in view of some of the lakes created by the old lords. At this time of year it’s a struggle with rain showers as well as light levels! But, you can also have some bright (but cold) days that let you get on. It was a pleasure to sympathetically put an old mortared wall back up.

Small repair of boundary dry stone wall

Jobs come in all shapes and sizes. This was a small bit of urban dry stone walling. Ivy had started to pull down a section of the wall and so it was a case of a straightforward rebuild after the ivy had been cut back. However, despite the small size, it’s always satisfying to use the same stones to rebuild a dry stone wall.
